THE COEN BROTHERS ARE UNSTOPPABLE

No Country for Old Men, their latest release, has put them on an amazing run for awards and recognition, still under way, which could culminate in several Oscars (it’s been nominated for eight). Meanwhile, they are preparing a new premiere, shooting another film and have just signed for the film adaptation of a Pulitzer-winning novel.

As reported by producer Scott Rudin (The Queen, There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men) in The Guardian newspaper, the Coen brothers will be writing and directing a screen adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Yiddish Policemen’s Union”, written by Michael Chabon and with Rudin obtaining the film rights to it six years ago. The story starts from a hypothetical destruction of Israel which forces the Jews to relocate to Alaska. From this premise, the author creates a thriller there based on the murder of a messianic, heroine-addicted chess player. Michael Chabon is delighted with the choice of directors, whom he states are among his favorites. He believes the filmmaking duo is most capable of handling the material in the novel “in terms of genre, tone and content”. Although the pair of directors has begun pre-production of the future film, we don’t yet know anything about who will be in the cast yet, as the Coens are first preparing the comedy Burn After Reading, with Brad Pitt and George Clooney, for release and then are going to shoot The Serious Man (a story of a teacher who begins to question the value of life).
