THE NEW YORK FILM ACADEMY COMES TO MADRID

The prestigious New York Film Academy (NYFA) will have a branch campus in Madrid starting the last week in September. At the official presentation, Dan Mackler and Michael Young, directors of the film schools in Los Angeles and New York, explained that the new academy will have the same structure, rules and methods of operations as the main campus in New York.

Two programs will be offered: a one-year course focused on direction and production, and a two-year program which will also include acting. Mackler and Young also highlighted the crucial importance of film shooting in training filmmakers. Consequently, many activities will take place outside the classroom. So, they hope that “the City of Madrid will be as predisposed as possible to allowing students to film in the city’s streets”.

But, technical work aside, Mackler points out, “Nothing is as important as the story; we tell the students to focus on what they want to say because that passion for the story is what allows us to create.”

Regarding prerequisites for the NYFA courses, it won’t be necessary to have an undergraduate degree, although that will be a requirement for the Masters course offered in Madrid, New York and Los Angeles.

The school, which will be complete with film sets, is located in C/ Pradillo, and classes will be given in Spanish and English.
