THE ORPHANAGE AND BELEN RUEDA REACH A PINNACLE FOR HORROR FILMS
Actress and the film nominated for the Saturn Awards
Following the disappointment of not having been nominated for the Oscars, and with Solitary Fragments taking the top prize at the recent Goya Awards, Belen Rueda and The Orphanage have had a reversal of fortunes with two nominations for the upcoming Saturn Awards, the most important awards given annually to the best productions in the genres of horror, fantasy and science fiction. This years ceremony, which will pay special tribute to Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, will be held in Los Angeles on 24th June.

Actress Belen Rueda is in the running for Best Actress, along with Hollywood heavyweights like Helena Bonham Carter, nominated for her role in the Tim Burtons latest film,
Sweeney Todd, Naomi Watts, a nominee for
Eastern Promises by David Cronenberg, or Ashley Judd, nominated for the film
Bug. Juan Antonio Bayona, for his part, could be called to the stage to get the award for Best International Film of the year. A Spanish production is competing in this category once again, this time against
Eastern Promises, and the latest film by Milos Forman,
Goyas Ghosts, a film which has the omnipresent Javier Bardem among the actors playing its leading roles. Naturally, Bardem is not without a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his psychopathic performance in
No Country for Old Men by the Coen brothers, a role which has garnered him an unbroken chain of awards right up to the Oscar in the same category. The annual
Saturn Awards are given out by the US Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films located in Los Angeles. They are considered the most important awards world-wide in these genres, with four Best Picture Awards in the categories of science fiction, horror, fantasy, action-adventure and thriller. Favorites going into this years ceremony are
300 (with 10 nominations),
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (nine nominations) and
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (eight nominations).
