La Academia de las Ciencias y las Artes Cinematograficas de España [Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Sciences and Arts] announced to day the shortlist of finalists from which the definitive title will be chosen to vie for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film (should it be chosen by the American Academy): El baile de la Victoria [The Dancer and the Thief ] by Fernando Trueba and produced by Fernando Trueba, P.C., Gordos by Daniel Sanchez Arevalo and produced by Tesela P.C., and Mapa de los sonidos de Tokio [Map of the Sounds of Tokyo ] by Isabel Coixet and produced by Mediaproduccion and Versatil Cinema. The latter two have already been shown in Spain. The Dancer and the Thief is being premiered, out of competition, at the San Sebastian Film Festival, although we will have to wait until December for its commercial debut. On Friday, 18th September ballots will be sent to the Academy members to start voting on the second round among the three pre-selected films. The definitive title representing Spain for the next Oscar Awards will be announced on Tuesday, 29th September.
