Well, fame costs. And right here is where you start paying... in sweat. This is the phrase with which the tough dance teacher, played by Debbie Allen, received her students at the New York School of Performing Arts in the successful series FAME . This led to a film of the same name being made in 1980, directed by Alan Parker, which won two Oscars, for Best Original Song and Best Soundtrack.
The remake of the 1980 version of FAME will be released in Spain in October and, like the first, will follow the fortunes of a talented group of dancers, singers, actors and performers from various disciplines, throughout their four years at the New York School of Performing Arts, where students are given the chance to make their dreams come true and seek fame. But this the kind of fame which is born of talent, dedication and hard work.
In an atmosphere charged with competitiveness and plagued with insecurities, the students will be subjected to gruelling ordeals. While attempting to achieve their goals through hard work the students also have to deal with stormy friendships and passionate romances. With the support of their friends and fellow performers they will find out who, amongst them all, has what it takes to make it to the top.
The characters are played by young, relatively unknown American actors, who have mainly appeared in popular US television series: Asher Book (Medium), Kristy Flores (Gossip Girl), Kay Panabaker (C.S.I.), Collins Pennie (Law & Order), Walter Perez (The Closer). Amongst the teachers we will find Debbie Allen and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier). The film is the first to be directed by choreographer and dancer Kevin Tancharoen.
