The Catholic Church may not be very pleased with the big screen adaptation of Angels & Demons , originally written by Dan Brown and starring Tom Hanks, but obviously Spanish audiences are delighted. It’s been a while since a movie was at number one in the Top 10 for two consecutive weeks, and this film, directed by Ron Howard, has managed it. The film has had a turnover of 2,907,293 euros and earned 9,244,848 euros in total.

Second place goes to sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian , starring Ben Stiller as night security guard Larry Daley. While in the USA the film has been a box-office hit, even more successful than the long-awaited Terminator Salvation here in Spain we have yet to be convinced. In any case, not a bad haul for the film: a turnover of 1,949,206 euros.

In third place, though lagging far behind the first two films, is Hannah Montana: The Movie with 701,814 euros. The Disney factory is still raking it in.

The Spanish film Fuga de cerebros remains unstoppable and, after five weeks showing in cinemas, is at fourth place with 515,472 euros. This movie, starring Amaia Salamanca and Mario Casas, has amassed a total of 5,459,568 euros and has become the biggest Spanish box-office hit of the year, beating Mentiras y gordas (Sex, Party and Lies ) .

X-Men Origins: Wolverine falls to fifth place with 427,580 euros. We expected this film, starring Hugh Jackman, to do better. In the next place is Star Trek , with 295,453 euros.

Coming in seventh is another recent release: Good: Viggo Mortensen’s new film, in which he plays a teacher tempted by Nazism. This film has brought in 279,875 euros.

Last Chance Harvey

, the romance starring Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman, is at eighth place with 175,326 euros, closely followed by Fighting , with 154,920 euros.

And last on the list is the film Pranzo di ferragosto (or Mid-August Lunch ), the Italian comedy of the moment, which has earned 114,301 euros.
