This young actress is to lead the cast of Beastly ; shooting is due to start this summer

Like her boyfriend Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens also wants to leave behind her days in High School Musical and start a film career outside the Disney factory, so it appears she will not be taking part in the fourth episode of the movie series now underway.

However, it has been confirmed that she is to play the lead in the film Beastly, by CBS Films, a kind of modern version of Beauty and the Beast. The movie, based on the novel by Alex Flinn, is set in Manhattan and is about an attractive but ill-mannered youngster who, after getting out of going on a date with a girl, has a spell put on him and is turned into the incarnation of everything he hates. With his new, grotesque appearance, it will be almost impossible for him to find the true love he needs to reverse the curse.

Filming is due to start this summer and although not yet confirmed, it seems likely that the male lead will go to Alex Pettyfer (co-protagonist of the film Wild Child , out in Spain soon), who is now engaged in the final negotiations.
