On 28th September, the 12th
Festival de Cine España (Cinespaña) [Cinespaña Film Festival], in Toulouse, opened with the projection of
Yo, el desconocido, directed by
Joan Mallarach. This TV movie is produced by
Jet Films along with
TV-3 and
TVE, and this is the first time a film for television is opening this event. The production for TV is being shown outside of the contest and stars
Fernando Guillen, Bernat Quintana and
Amparo Soler Leal. The feature film tells the story of
Arnau, a 17-year-old boy who decides to make a big change in his life to strive to be deserving of winning the heart of the girl hes attracted to. He starts volunteering with an association which attends to the elderly, where he meets
Ramon, an old libertarian who is in the initial stages of Alzheimers. Arnau helps Ramon remember some of the saddest times of his life. The script is the work of
Manuel Angel Egea and
Andreu Martin, and is based on the novel with the same title by
Antoni Dalmases. The film is the first product to result from the
Mercado Internacional de Derechos Audiovisuales (MIDA) [international audiovisual rights market], which was established two years ago with the intention of putting publishers and film producers in contact with each other. Cinespaña 2007 is being held until
Sunday 7th October, and the Guest of Honour this year is the producer and film-maker
Elias Querejeta, who is being recognized for his lifetime achievement, and the event includes an extensive retrospective of his films.
