Don Juan Tenorio and Don Luis Mejia are rivals in amorous adventures, but the former always wins. A new wager causes Don Juan to seduce a novice, Doña Ines, at the house of Doña Ana, Don Luis fiancee. When Don Juan goes to the convent, Doña Ines faints and is carried off by Don Juan, who takes her to his house and declares his love. Later, Don Luis and his father, Don Gonzalo, arrive there and challenge Don Juan to a duel, in which both are killed. Years later, Don Juan visits the tombs of Don Gonzalo and Doña Ines in the graveyard, and her ghost tells him he must await his own death to be saved or damned. That night Don Gonzalos ghost appears in his house for dinner and announces that he will die that very night, which is in fact what happens in a duel with his friends Centellas and Avallaneda. Finally Don Juan, now dead, repents and the love of Doña Ines redeems him from his sins.
